Best Breakfasts in Greenwood: Yiayia’s House of Pancakes

Until we had children, I was a serial breakfast skipper. I enjoyed Belgium waffles on occasion…but never really before noon. Oh, and then there’s bacon, who doesn’t love bacon? These days I’m skipping breakfast less and enjoying it more — maybe it’s the fact that the kids pull me out of my beauty sleep much earlier than I prefer to be awake, or maybe its the overwhelming amount of energy that the kids demand on my body. Either way, we’re eating breakfast now.

Yiayia’s House of Pancakes is on the corner of Main Street and 135 in Greenwood

The yellow house looking style building that sits on the corner of 135 and Main Street in Greenwood grabs the attention of most passerby and our family is no different. The welcoming doors invite the community to come inside and sit. Yiayai’s House of Pancakes (formerly Sophia’s) was purchased by a new owner when Sophia retired in October 2013. Yiayia, Greek for “grandmother” is the perfect namesake for this pancake house meets family diner. With warm, fresh meals, friendly staff and generous servings, you won’t leave hungry but you will leave happy.

Blueberry Crepes at Yiayia’s House of Pancakes

Yiayia’s is frequently host to dine out fundraisers, Red Hat Society lunches and birthday brunches. Everyone you speak to who has visited will boast about plentiful portions and attentive staff, this is why on occasion you might find groups of families or friends waiting for an open table. Open for breakfast and lunch, Yiayia’s is the place that many Greenwood families call home during weekend breakfast hours. Want to try something new? Order a Blintz, a thin pancake that is filled with a cream cheese and fruit filling and then baked. My girls and I are fans of the blackberry crepes.

You can enjoy traditional breakfast dishes, sandwiches, burgers and Greek cuisine daily from 7 am to 3pm. Yiayia’s House of Pancakes is located at 1694 West Main Street, Greenwood. The only downside is the wait for tables during popular family dining times. I recommend visiting on a weekday morning to avoid a wait.
