#GreenwoodIN – When I first moved to the south side to Greenwood, there was a popular restaurant at the end of my street, Casa Miguel’s had great mexican food and was a good meet up spot for my friends and me. Out with the old and in with the new — Between the Bun Burgers, Dogs and More (102 S. Madison Avenue, Greenwood) is a food-truck-turned-restaurant hamburger hot spot! For the past year or so, I’ve noticed friends sharing photos of their unique hamburgers on social media and I finally stopped in to see what the hype was all about.
There are plenty of appetizers to get you started. Between the Bun will not rush to complete food at the expense of taste and presentation, so they invite you to sit back and relax — order a starter if it’s a particularly busy time. Our family enjoyed Big Dad’s Bacon Cheese Fries. If you like heat, add the Spitfire Chili.
Between the Bun has a special burger and beer of the month. The burger is generally one that doesn’t appear on their regular menu, like the Caramel Apple Burger for October (a hand pattied burger topped with bacon, cheese and an apple slice, drizzled with caramel) or the Italian Stallion Pizza Burger for November.
The 1970’s and 1980’s decor is charming and colorful. Vintage games decorate the wall, a Pacman arcade game stands tall right inside the entrance and hand-decorated tables are adorned with bright colored paper and cutouts from VHS movie covers.
Don’t visit on a Monday, Between the Bun is closed. Every other day of the week is fair game and lunchtime offers the best value for your buck. You’ll find seven different items for $7 each on the special lunch menu (available 11am-2pm weekdays). Mon – Closed, Tues – Thurs: 11am-9pm, Friday – Saturday: 11am-10pm, Sunday: 12pm-9pm. Voted best Hot Dog in Indy and one of the top four burgers on the Indy A List. 2nd place People’s Choice winner in the Indy Burger Battle.
