The Greenwood, Indiana area has 14 municipal parks with rolling greenways, playgrounds, Greenwood sports facilities, and picnic areas covering a total of 200 acres. The Greenwood park system also boasts a swimming pool, the Greenwood Community Center, numerous tennis courts, golf courses, baseball diamonds and Little League programs.
Among these parks is the Children’s Garden Park, featuring a gazebo, park benches, an ornamental fountain, ornamental landscapes, and children’s artwork. The Surina Square Park sits in the middle of the Surina Square complex which houses the Greenwood Community Center, the Greenwood Amphitheater, and a variety of Indianapolis hiking trails for visitors to enjoy.
The largest of all the parks, University Park, boasts 40 sprawling acres of land for visitors to roam, explore, and enjoy. In addition to standard park amenities such as picnic shelters, a playground, walking trails, basketball courts, pathways and grills, the park also features a nature area, the Reflections Plaza Pavilion, and Four Paws Dog Park.
The dog park provides a secure, fenced area for residents of the Indianapolis suburb to bring their four legged canine friends to play, frolic, and interact with other dogs in a protected environment. Amenities such as agility equipment which provides ample opportunity for your dog to run and jump, a water bar for break times and refueling, and numerous waste stations throughout the dog park provide for an enjoyable and rewarding experience for both dog and owner.
The Greenwood Parks Community Center provides a wide array of recreation options for the residents of the Greenwood area. A state of the art fitness center is featured here, and includes two full court gymnasiums, game and meeting rooms, locker and shower facilities, concessions areas, an aerobics room, and a full kitchen to provide all you would need for your community gathering.
A variety of fitness classes are offered in the Community Center in concordance with Greenwood’s Commit to Be Fit Program, including yoga, spinning, cardio and toning, and even belly dancing. The Community Center effectively provides a true meeting area for neighbors to exercise, congregate and celebrate in a common setting.
Each summer, the Greenwood Amphitheater comes alive with a celebration of music in the Summer Concert Series. A wide array of musical genres, bands, and styles are represented, including the Greenwood Community Band, rock, country, 40′s era big band, Beatles and Jimmy Buffet tribute bands, and many more.
In addition to the musical offerings in the park, Shakespeare is revisited in the summer theater series in his name. A Midsummer Night’s Dream, The Taming of the Shrew, and Romeo and Juliet are examples of the productions in this summer theatre series.
