Greenwood Things to Do: Shopping, Nature, and Live Music

Located just a few miles south of the Circle City, Greenwood is nevertheless home to its own range of attractions, activities, and Greenwood things to do. The department operates fourteen different parks throughout the Greenwood city limits, each one offerings its own facilities, amenities, and activities. Craig Park, Northwest Park, and Summerfield Park have dozens of acres of picnicking areas, walking trails, cross country skiing areas, and Greenwood sports fields, Pool Park offers several green spaces and a community swimming pool, the Children’s Garden Park is an excellent place to entertain Greenwood children, with its ornamental landscaping, jungle gyms, and cool Greenwood art, and University Park offers visitors the Four Paws Dog Park, for their furry friends, and the Reflections Plaza Pavilion, a tastefully decorated space looking out over a tranquil pond. The Greenwood Parks and Recreation Department is the force behind many things to do in Greenwood.

This pillar of Greenwood shopping can be compared to some of the best Indianapolis shopping malls, even the legendary Circle Centre Mall. Filled with tons of well known chains like Build-A-Bear, American Eagle, and the Disney Store, in addition to over 100 specialty shops, Greenwood Park Mall has everything you could ever want in a retail space. A Simon Property Group mall, the Greenwood Park Mall is fully stocked with Greenwood businesses, snack shops, consumer electronics, the latest fashions, and a decked out food court.

First on your list should be the Greenwood Freedom Festival, celebrated every year around the 4th of July. The Freedom Festival routinely draws over 40,000 participants from towns around the region to celebrate the birth of the United States with a parade through downtown Greenwood, live Indianapolis music, a Kid’s Fair, and a breathtaking fireworks display. The Greenwood Freedom Festival is one of the largest one day festivals in Central Indiana, even beating out many Indianapolis festivals.
